Paint Sprayers Save Homeowners Time And Money | Millionaire …

?

An increasing amount of homeowners are taking interest in tackling a variety of do it yourself home improvement projects. More and more hardware stores are providing exciting new tools and resources that allow the easy completion of many projects in a short amount of time. Interior and exterior painting has become one of the most popular do it yourself projects around the house. While many choose to paint with traditional brushes and rollers, paint sprayers offer an alternative painting method to anyone interested in saving time and money.

Adding a fresh coat of paint to interior walls, ceilings, and doors is usually a simple way to improve the way a house looks on the inside. Years of exposure often covers walls with dirt, marks, and other types of damage. Traditional painting methods require purchasing new paint, brushes, rollers, and materials to protect furniture and floors. A simple painting project might be more expensive than expected if proper plans aren?t in place before starting the job.

Planning ahead of time is a cost-effective approach to interior and exterior painting projects. Homeowners who choose to use paint sprayers are able to complete projects faster, using a lesser amount of paint and materials. The type of sprayers that used depend on the painting project being done. Surface, coverage area, and location are key factors when selecting the correct paint and sprayer for the job. Personal preference also plays a big role when selecting tools that work best.

Spray painting techniques often leave a much nicer look than paint applied with brushes or rollers. Both high-volume and low-volume low pressure sprayers are available for a variety of applications. Using the correct tools and materials will offer the best results and make sure projects are safely completed.

Many who take on home improvement projects for the first time find themselves intimidated by various tools and equipment. Fortunately advancement of technology has provided simple and straightforward methods that make do it yourself projects an enjoyable and rewarding experience. In addition, many new methods are extremely cost-effective for homeowners. Reducing the amount of money spent on painting projects will allow free up funds for other projects.

Alternative painting methods offer a professional appearance that increases the value of a home. With a tough economy and the decline of property values, every improvement done to the home is beneficial. Not everyone is comfortable with trying new tools and equipment to complete the job, but that is perfectly fine since most traditional painting methods offer just as good as results as new ones.

There is an endless amount of resources available to anyone interested in making improvements to their home. It is wise to gather as much information as possible when planning various projects. Completing a project correctly and efficiently leaves homeowners with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Not everyone is capable of completing every single type of home improvement project, but the correct tools and knowledge can go a long way and be a helpful part of the process.

Brad Pitt’s Engagements: From Jennifer Aniston To Angelina Jolie

MTV News goes back to 1998 to look at how the actor’s engagements compare.

Last week, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made headlines when they announced that after seven years and six kids together, they are getting hitched.

Before confirming Brangelina’s engagement, the twosome had frequently been speculated about, with editors cooking up cover lines that the glamorous, globe-trotting duo would marry … someday. Well, it seems that someday is still someday, since no date has been set just yet.

But before he ties the knot with Angelina, let’s go back to 1998, the year he popped the question to Jennifer Aniston. Fourteen years ago, celebrity news was a different being than it is today. Without a multitude of celebrity blogs and Twitter, it was easier for celebrities, Brad included, to fly relatively under the radar. While their wedding announcement was covered, the amount of publicity surrounding it was minute by today’s standards.

In fact, Brad and Jennifer announced their plans to wed only days before the $1 million ceremony took place that August. The twosome had denied even being engaged up until that last-minute announcement.

According to reports, he had given her a Silvia Damiani-designed ring, worth an estimated $500,000. She showed off the stunner months later in 1999 at a Sting concert, according to Usmagazine.com.

While Brad and Jen kept it hush-hush, Brangelina released a statement about their engagement, but only after their jewelry designer Robert Procop confirmed he worked with Brad on a ring. Angelina was spotted sporting the ring, worth more than $250,000, at a private museum event last week. “Yes, it’s confirmed,” Cynthia Pett-Dante said last Friday. “It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There’s no date set at this time.”

Pitt had been engaged once before both these women. Even though they never walked down the aisle, he was engaged to Gwyneth Paltrow in the mid-’90s before the couple broke up in 1997. He started dating Aniston shortly after.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Establishes Kid-Killing Trend

Yet another child lost his life on the latest episode of the HBO fantasy series.
By Josh Wigler

If three’s a trend, then infanticide is definitely trending in Westeros.

The latest episode of “Game of Thrones” marks three hours in a row that have concluded with the death of a child. But poor Lommy Greenhands wasn’t the only one to die this week, either, as another member of the Night’s Watch fell to the sword — and he wasn’t even with his fellow sworn brothers north of the Wall!

Get more on Lommy and Yoren’s deaths in the latest episode of “Watching the Thrones,” viewable below. And keep on reading for all the good, bad and ugly from this week’s episode!

The Good
»Brienne of Tarth has arrived! Season two has already introduced many new key players to the Seven Kingdoms, but Brienne is easily one of the biggest of the newbies, both literally and figuratively. Gwendoline Christie brings the character to life perfectly as one of “King” Renly’s most loyal servants. Her introduction via combat against Ser Loras is one of the highlights of “A Clash of Kings,” and it was adapted fantastically for the small screen. Great work all around.

»Speaking of great work, one of my favorite Tyrion chapters in the entire series (wherein he tests Pycelle, Littlefinger and Varys’ loyalties through their ability to keep a secret) premiered in this week’s episode, and it was fantastic. That one-two-three fast one hinges entirely on Tyrion’s thought process in the books, and even without his direct point of view, his mastery over the game of thrones shines through phenomenally in the show’s rendition of the sequence thanks to Peter Dinklage and editing wizardry. Again, incredible job.

»My love for Theon Greyjoy knows no bounds. That’s probably a hard concept to wrap your head around as you see the Stark turncoat’s actions play out throughout the season, but his arc is perhaps my very favorite in George R.R. Martin’s epic tale. Alfie Allen and the show’s writers are doing a remarkable job with Theon and Pyke, and his torment over choosing a side — either the Starks or his biological family — comes through tremendously. Keep your eye on this one… it gets a whole lot darker before you’ll see any light.

The Bad
»Would you look at that: not a single bad scene in the entire episode! I suppose it would have been nice to see Dany again, or gotten more progression with Dragonstone, but those are minor nitpicks that will be corrected next week. Of course, even if there was no bad, there was plenty of ugly. And on that note…

The Ugly
»Tyrion is one of few characters on the show you’re pretty much always rooting for, but even he hit a low this week in how he handled arresting Pycelle. The maester deserved his punishment, but lopping off the poor old man’s beard? That’s just cruel!

»And yes, naturally, there was another child death. That’s “Game of Thrones” for you. If the slaughter of the bastards and the sacrifice of Craster’s son didn’t do it for you, Lommy’s death certainly should have sold you on the dangers of Westeros. Sad to see him go, but let’s be honest — better him than Arya or Gendry!

»Finally, let’s pour one out for Yoren. I hated losing him in the books, and it was even worse to see him go on the show. But if you have to go, go down swinging like Yoren, I suppose. If nothing else, his death gives Arya another reason to hate the Lannisters. That way lies many, many badass things.

Tell us what you think of this week’s episode in the comments or or hit me up on Twitter @roundhoward!

The New Grabio Lets You Grab Classified Deals On The Go

grabio1Grabio has been around for about a year but they’ve recently updated the app and added a number of features. What does it do? Essentially it’s a mobile Craigslist with notifications and location-based searches for classified listings. You can enter any neighborhood, do a quick search, and pick up a broken girls bicycle seat or a gently used full body cast for a few bucks. Pretty slick, eh? Founded by Horatiu Boeriu and Chris Popa, both currently living in Chicago, the company is bootstrapped and went through a number of iterations before it settled on its current incarnation. At launch they saw 5,000 users, although that number is creeping up.

Klipsch Gallery G-17 Air

Klipsch Gallery G-17 Air

Editors’ Note (4/11/2012): After the most recent version of iOS was released, the previously mentioned issue of interrupted AirPlay streams was cleared up. We have since tested and confirmed this, and as such have revised the review and score to reflect that improvement.

As AirPlay speaker systems increase in number?most of them still being referred to as “docks” despite a lack of an actual dock for an iPhone, iPod, or iPad?a few things are becoming increasingly clear. Almost all AirPlay docks are black, and the Klipsch Gallery G-17 Air is no exception. They are all pretty expensive?the G-17 is a hefty $549.99 (direct). For the most part, all AirPlay docks thus far offer quality audio, ranging from booming bass, as with the Audyssey Audio Dock Air ($399.99, 3.5 stars) to superb high fidelity sound, as with the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air ($599.95, 4 stars). The G-17 sounds excellent, and as of the most recent iOS update, has resolved the streaming issues we experienced in the past.?

Design
The rounded, glossy black piano finish of the Gallery G-17 Air is striking, as is the horizontal array of drivers?two 20-watt woofers in the middle and two 10-watt tweeters on the far left and right ends of the front panel. A small Klipsch logo and a remote sensor are the only other things on the front panel. All of the controls are located on the small right-hand side panel?Power, Volume, Input Select, and Wi-Fi, which is used for inital setup. The back panel houses the power cable connection, a 3.5mm Aux input, and a USB connection. You’ll need a Phillips head screwdriver to attach the glass stand to the speaker unit (screws are included), but the G-17 is also wall-mountable. Also included with the G-17 and its stand: a rubber cover for the input panel on the back, a black cloth grille cover in case you want to hide the awesome looking drivers, a remote control, the power supply, an owners manual, and?seriously?white gloves, so your fingertips don’t smudge the glossy black surface when you move the system.

The included remote can be frustrating to use?depending on the angle, and strength of the Wi-Fi signal, adjusting the volume can be a very delayed process. When the signal is good and the audio is streaming smoothly, the remote, which is a simple, thin, black plastic controller with membrane buttons, works fine. It has Power, Volume, Play/Pause, Skip Forward/Backward, and Input Select buttons.

Performance
The Gallery G-17 offers fairly powerful, refined audio performance for its size. There are four drivers but no subwoofer, and the net result is a audiophile-friendly flat response, devoid of booming deep bass but quite capable of articulating low frequencies well. Kick drums sound tight, not thunderous. Lower register stringed instruments sound pleasantly resonant, not overly boosted or booming. John Adams’ modern classical piece, “The Chairman Dances,” sounds neither overly bright nor rumbly. Instead, the G-17′s response favors mid-range frequencies, occasionally allowing high frequency percussion hits, like wood blocks, to pop out from the more commanding force of the stringed instruments. At maximum volume on deep bass tracks, the G-17 doesn’t distort, but this is partially due to the lack of booming bass pushed out by the speakers. Still, many systems that have no subwoofer try to reproduce deep bass frequencies with the result of distortion, and the G-17 avoids this problem. The Knife’s “Silent Shout,” at maximum volume, doesn’t sound as thumping as it would on a system with a sub, but it does not distort either, and the bass frequencies are still well represented. Basically, the G-17 offers a nice, smooth response throughout the frequency range that doesn’t exaggerate the lows or ignore them. Fans of accurate response over booming bass will be pleased.

Because AirPlay relies on Wi-Fi, it’s dependent on the bandwidth of the local network. The more tasks being completed on the Wi-Fi network, no matter how un-taxing on the bandwidth, like sending an email, the more likely the stream is to pause, or stop completely. We have since tested the Klipsch Gallery G-17 Air again with the new version of iOS and experienced little to no interruption in the stream. This is a vast improvement over our initial tests of the speaker, and we have revised its score accordingly.

Apple is reportedly choosing to either switch to or include Bluetooth streaming into the AirPlay feature. Even a year or so ago, Bluetooth streaming was still a weak audio solution, with very little bass and low bit-rate fidelity. But recent developments have strengthened the audio quality greatly, as evidenced by recent Editors’ Choices, the portable Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile Speaker ($299.95, 4 stars) and the fantastic JBL OnBeat Xtreme ($499.95, 4.5 stars), which shows up as an AirPlay device on an iPhone or iPad, but uses Bluetooth. As of the most recent iOS update, AirPlay and Bluetooth seem to be similarly reliable.

The Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air remains at the top of the list of AirPlay docks, in terms of audio performance, with the Klipsch Gallery G-17 close to the top with the most recent version of iOS. The streaming issues have been resolved, and it’s now about as functional as a Bluetooth speaker, with excellent audio quality.?

Embrace, don't fear SMS for patient convenience | mobihealthnews

Embrace, don't fear SMS for patient convenience | mobihealthnews

Neil_Versel_LargeA vendor is currently circulating a white paper entitled, ?Eight Reasons SMS Is Unacceptable for Critical Hospital Communications.?

I admit that I didn?t read the whole thing, but the teaser listed some of the usual suspects: SMS messages aren?t secure healthcare standards; you can?t really prioritize delivery of text messages; and there?s no way to ?escalate? texts if earlier messages aren?t acted upon.

Yes, the vendor wants to sell its security services, but I still think the message is a bit alarmist. What are ?critical? communications anyway? From a security standpoint, anything involving personally identifiable, protected health information (as defined by HIPAA) should be considered critical ? and certainly not appropriate for an unencrypted text message. But let?s not completely dismiss texting in healthcare settings.

As the Montreal Gazette reported last week, several walk-in clinics in that city have started sparing patients endless waits by sending a text or an automated voice message when it?s almost their turn to see the doctor.

?The patients gain back their freedom. They don?t have to wait for four or five hours in a waiting room full of sick people,? Sara Michaels, the manager of one clinic, told the newspaper. ?Instead, they can take a number, and then they can go out and do their groceries or whatever, and the system will alert them to come back,? she added.

?In a sense, it?s like coming in and asking for an appointment later in the day, something we couldn?t do before.?

The problem of long waiting times is particularly acute in the Montreal area, where, according to the Gazette, 300,000 people do not have a regular family physician. Say what you want about the government-run Canadian healthcare system that is plagued with provider shortages, but we have quite an access problem in this country, too.

Plenty of Americans wait for hours at similar walk-in clinics and hospital emergency departments, and those who do have a primary care physician might not be able to get an appointment right away when they?re sick. Texting makes perfect sense to alert patients when the doctor is almost ready to see them or if the last-minute cancellation opens up an appointment.

A couple of years back, I remember Will Weider, CIO of Ministry Health Care in Wisconsin and author of the Candid CIO blog, musing about why physician offices should set up Twitter accounts. He said clinics should tweet whenever they get a cancellation or otherwise have an opening in their schedule. If you or your child is sick, just follow the Twitter stream and you?ll know immediately if and when the doctor can take you.

I?m not sure how many practices have followed this advice, but anyone who doesn?t is leaving money on the table. A schedule opening means lost revenue, and what primary care practice couldn?t use the extra cash? That concept is not lost in Montreal, either. The clinic featured in the Gazette article charges a $3 fee for messaging service. The convenience is clearly worth it to a lot of patients.

As long as you stay away from sending personally identifiable information about a specific person?s health, SMS is perfectly acceptable for plenty of healthcare communications. Some might even consider the extra revenue to be ?critical.?

Russia’s Putin calls for unity after protests, polls

Russia’s Putin calls for unity after protests, polls

MOSCOW (Reuters) – President-elect Vladimir Putin urged his opponents on Wednesday to put aside their differences with him for the sake of Russia‘s economic and political future after months of protests and elections that divided the country.

But some deputies walked out of the State Duma lower house to protest his remarks about a disputed mayoral vote following his last annual speech to parliament as prime minister, underlining the growing challenge he faces from the opposition after the biggest protests of his 12-year rule.

Putin, who will be sworn in on May 7, said in his unemotional 1-1/2 hour speech that Russia was stronger after his four years in government and must now focus on boosting its population, improving economic growth, creating jobs, modernizing the economy and strengthening its global position.

But to achieve this, he said, all political groups must unite following elections and four months of protests fuelled by anger over alleged electoral fraud and his domination of the world’s largest country.

“The country has gone through a tense period of parliamentary and presidential elections. And today the echoes of the heightened emotions and political battles can still be heard,” Putin told the Duma to occasional bursts of applause.

“But the logic of a mature democracy is that elections end and afterwards … joint work always begins,” he said, reading his speech from a podium to rows of deputies.

The 59-year-old leader added: “We have one Russia, and its modern, advanced development must be the goal that unites all the country’s political forces that want to work to build it.”

The speech was laced with populist references to Russia’s sovereignty, its economic progress and its ability to act alone on the world stage.

But although his authority has been dented by the protests, some of which brought tens of thousands of protesters on to the streets Moscow and other big cities before fading, Putin offered no new concessions to opponents who say he has stifled dissent.

The former KGB spy has already offered limited political reforms such as relaxing rules on the registration of political parties and, during questions after his speech, did not rule out bringing opposition representatives into government.

But his opponents, who fear he could seek another term when his presidency ends in 2018 and rule until 2024, have dismissed his concessions as token changes that preserve his domination of the political system.

Several deputies walked out of the Duma when Putin suggested a Just Russia party member who is on hunger strike over alleged fraud in a mayoral vote in the southern city of Astrakhan should take his dispute to court instead.

Losing candidate Oleg Shein has been on a hunger strike along with several supporters for nearly a month to protest the official result of the election in the southern city of Astrakhan which he lost to a rival from a pro-Kremlin party.

“As far as I know, your colleague … started the hunger strike but did not appeal to court. This is a bit strange. Why go on hunger strike?” Putin said when a Just Russia deputy asked his opinion of the dispute.

Kremlin critics say courts are subject to pressure from the government and have had little success contesting results of a December parliamentary election in which allegations of fraud on behalf of Putin’s party sparked the protests against his rule.

Before Putin’s address, police had detained leftist opposition leader Sergei Udaltsov and five other demonstrators as they and about 30 others tried to stage an anti-Putin protest outside the Duma before the address.

RUSSIA IS STRONGER

Russia’s economy is in moderate recovery after the 2008-09 global economic crisis, and Russia won praise for building up a big “rainy-day fund” that helped prevent economic meltdown.

But concerns are mounting that Putin’s pre-election spending pledges will make the public finances of the world’s largest energy producer more vulnerable than ever to an oil-price crash.

Putin said it was crucially important to improve the business and investment climate, calling it a test of Russia’s resolve and saying “no serious economic task” could be accomplished without improvements.

Putin, who has said he will name outgoing President Dmitry Medvedev as prime minister in a job swap with the protege he helped into the Kremlin in 2008, said his spending plans had been carefully calculated and defended his policies in general.

“Evaluating the results of the last four years, we can rightly say Russia has not only overcome the (global economic) crisis. We have taken a significant step forward. We are stronger than before,” he said.

Drawing comparisons with the chaotic 1990s under President Boris Yeltsin, when Russia needed an international bailout after defaulting on its debt, he pledged to build a “new economy” that could withstand external shocks without help from outside.

“Where can we go (if Russia needs the money)? Greece can go to Brussels. Where can we go?” Putin said.

He said Russia must create jobs, vowed to increase average wages by at least 1.6 to 1.7 times by 2020, and said he would diversify the economy.

He called for “bold, new steps” to tackle demographic problems which experts say could harm economic growth in the country of more than 140 million.

Putin, who gave no clues about the makeup of the next government, also said the government should consider investing money held in the larger of its two sovereign wealth funds in regional development and strategic projects.

That comment could, however, undermine efforts by Finance Minister Anton Siluanov to save Russia’s windfall oil revenues as insurance against any oil-price collapse.
